Prior to joining Ithaka, he was Senior Advisor to EY, Chairman of San José Energía, and General Manager at Unión Fenosa Internacional, where he led the international growth of the company. In that role, he completed more than 50 transactions, including acquisitions, financing, and sales, while managing a global portfolio of infrastructure and energy companies, amounting to over €3 billion in assets under management and generating more than €500 million in EBITDA. José Manuel has extensive experience serving as a board member for several companies, including Chairman of Red Eléctrica Bolivia, Meralco (the main electricity distributor in Manila, Philippines), Cambridge Water, SEGAS (a midstream gas company in Egypt), and Aquanex (a water distribution company in Spain in partnership with Agbar), among others. Currently, he is also an investor and advisor at Gransolar Group. José Manuel holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, a degree in Law from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and has completed the PADE program at IESE. He also undertook a course on “Infrastructure in a Market Economy” at Harvard University.
